B 250 week 13

Woorank is a website that ranks the quality of other websites. Just copy the website address into the rank box and it tells you what you can do to improve your website and some helpful feedback about it. The score for my site right now is 53. Definitely higher than I expected but still some room to improve on. It did make me wonder about it though since my classmate pointed out that Google only has a 90. It makes me wonder on the usefulness of the site.
We also used Google Analytics. It said that I have quite a few hit, but I couldn’t get the rest of it figured out. There was no way to tell which words were the worst or the landing page, or add. I originally thought that it was because my ads are on hold still, but another classmate posted a copy of what their page looked like. My page was similar to hers but mine was missing that information that hers had. Instead of find out for sure which ones to change, I just get to guess and go off the information from google adwords.

B250 week12

Lesson 12 has been on social networking and using it to improve SEO and get more consumers through more personal-like interactions. I do not like social media and would rather not have to use it, however I can see that there could be some good from using it. Facebook could be good for a business since there seems to be quite a few people that use it. I found that they have business accounts, so it could be used like a blog except that each post would automatically be sent out and seen by anyone who likes your page. LinkedIn would also be manageable because it is business based and more professional. Users can pick categories that they get notices about so posts onto a page would be sent to those who that are interested in that subject. Google+ would be the only other one that I am willing to consider at this time. I’ve heard that it is great but I’m need to do some more research for it. The class said to pick three to do but in reality, and after reading all the details of what a social media network would require, I think two might be my maximum. I would need to hire someone that was more outgoing and willing to share before I could expand into social media very much.

B250 Week 11

While I really enjoy learning how to start a website, I think that it has been a waste of time to start it so soon in the semester and then learn about how to start and optimize a website. This site is where to go for how to actually set it up right. https://moz.com/blog/visual-guide-to-keyword-targeting-onpage-optimization
And here is how to do image ALTs: http://accessibility.psu.edu/images/imageshtml/
My site needs lots of help in order to meet any of these criteria right now. I have a header but very little text and no image texts. The plan was to keep it simple and straight forward in an attempt to increase user satisfaction. The problem is that without the text, the search engine has very little to go on to refer users to the site. This means that now I need to go back through and redo my website again. I haven’t even finished redoing it from last week, and my ads are still paused.

I am also thinking of taking my website in a new direction. Instead of focusing on tools, I would like to just focus on projects and how to do the project, with just a link to find the tools. It’s more time involved to redo it, but I think it will fit better for me.

B250 Week 10

While checking the feedback from my ads, I realized that my keywords were too broad. There wasn’t any info, I had a few clicks to the site but I think that it was from classmates looking at it and not from actual customers. I read lots of good ideas from other classmates on the discussion board and will see about being more specific in my keywords and ads. Instead of just saying tools, I can say hammer or screwdriver and have my ads focused on individual products more and not just the whole website. I think I will rearrange my site as well so that it is sectioned into product types a little more too. It means a lot more work but it should be good for the site and the customers finding things on the site. Maybe putting something on there like the Home Depot logo will work too.

Adwords Conversion Tracking code goes in the footer section under SEO in Weebly. I haven’t had any information from that yet either. I may need to put more money into the ad for it to really get going. But I’m not willing to do that yet so it will just have to wait.

B250 Week 9

Sometimes I really don't like being in school. This was one of those weeks. Looking into and developing ad for the website was interesting, but having to actually put in my account numbers to launch it was brutal. My ad doesn't seem like it fits in with the other ads. I feel like people will be able to tell that it was done by an amateur. I am an amateur of course, but I have a hard time with everyone seeing my amateur work.
Google Analytics was a neat app to have. For future reference, it goes in the footing code under settings. It was interesting to see the numbers(not that anyone actually visits my site yet) and how it is all set up to track what visitors do. I still struggle to really appreciate it though. Maybe my personal life is interfering with my school work, but I just don't really care at this time if people visit my site or not. I'm beginning to think that I might just prefer to keep it more as a way to keep track of my own interests. Or perhaps I could develop my future jobs on it and plan them all out before doing it. That would be interesting to me. I could then just put a thing on there for donations.
Hopefully next week will be less chaotic for me at home and then I can appreciate the lessons more and what they are teaching me.

Week 8 B250

As I looked over the websites that other classmates have designed, I have realized that I am definitely not as good as some, but not quite as behind as others. I was able to get some ideas that I can maybe use on my site as well. My biggest struggle is to get the link from my page to the company page to work. There seems to be something that I am missing in it, but I don’t know where to look. I’m going to have to get some help to get that part figured out.
There is a lot of stuff to remember when creating an ad. Basically, you just have to keep it simple and to the point. Don’t have lots of exclamation marks or crazy random capitalizations throughout the words. Most of the requirements were really logical. I don’t see myself as someone who uses symbols in place of words or does weird things with words anyway, so that didn’t seem to be a problem. On the discussion board, someone mentioned that affiliates need to make it known in the advertisement that they are an affiliate. Placing aff at the end of the ad is enough to satisfy this requirement.

It’s all coming together now though. I have to admit that this all seems a little backwards though. We are creating things like ads, before the site is actually running and some classmates that are running are getting behind. I like the hands on experience but each business needs to be done differently and so I think that actually starting a business for a semester might be a little too much.

Week 7 B250

This week has bee incredibly frustrating. I feel like I don’t really understand what it is I’m doing, but I’m trying really hard to learn. I read all of the things, but so many things are just assumed knowledge and I don’t have it. Therefore, this post is going to be a compilation of the things I need to remember.
Adwords is a type of advertising on the internet. People can still find your site without it but will most likely need to know the address for it. This doesn’t makes sense though, because I’ve have over 100 people visit my site and it’s not on Adwords.
Keywords help to match potential clients up with your site to find what they are looking for.  This reminds me of an online dating site, but instead of matching people they are matching words. I don’t understand how or at what point you are charged for advertising (if  you get charged for having your site on the screen or only if your site is actually clicked on), which is really irritating since I can’t find it in any of the reading material. This seems a bit fishy to me.  Here are a few websites that others used and I think worth having for future reference; https://youtu.be/pJ-DhVxit-4

Hopefully I gain a better understanding of it by the end of the semester.
So much information.
